BASIC INFO SL28 Washed Tasting Note Red Apple + Smoked Plum + Cranberry Region Alajuela, West Valley, Costa Rica Variety SL28 Process Washed Altitude 1700 masl Harvest February 2026 ABOUT ESTATE The SL series was developed by Kenya’s Scott Laboratories in the 1930s, with SL28 selected in 1935 from a drought-resistant Tanzanian population. It is known for its strong drought tolerance, though it is susceptible to diseases such as coffee leaf rust. Genetic testing has shown its close relationship to Bourbon. Volcán Azul is operated by the fifth generation of the family, Alejo Castro Kahle. The estate focuses on high-quality coffee cultivation on the slopes of the Poás Volcano. Since placing second in the Costa Rica COE in 2017, the estate has continued to achieve remarkable results. This washed SL28 was harvested in March 2026 at 1,700 meters above sea level. The cup presents notes of red apple, smoked plum, and cranberry, with a sweet and delicate character. 1 / 2 BREW GUIDES Recipe A Bright & Juicy Dripper V60 Grind C40 #24-28 / EK43S #13-16 Water Quality TDS50-100ppm Coffee 15g Water Temp 90-93°C Brew Ratio 1:17 Time 2:00-2:30min Steps ① Circular pour 50g at 0:00 ② Circular pour up to 100g at 0:30 ③ Circular pour up to 170g at 1:00 ④ Center pour up to 250g at 1:30 Recipe B Balanced & Rounded Dripper Kalita Grind C40 #24-28 / EK43S #13-16 Water Quality TDS50-100ppm Coffee 14g Water Temp 90°C Brew Ratio 1:15 Time 2:10min Steps ① Circular pour 50g at 0:00 ② Center pour up to 100g at 0:30 ③ Circular pour up to 150g at 1:00 ④ Center pour up to 210g at 1:30BASIC INFO SL28 Washed Tasting Note Red Apple + Smoked Plum + Cranberry Region Alajuela, West Valley, Costa Rica Variety SL28 Process Washed Altitude 1700 masl Harvest February 2026 ABOUT ESTATE The SL series was developed by Kenya’s Scott Laboratories in the 1930s, with SL28 selected in 1935 from a drought-resistant Tanzanian population.
