Was der Röster sagt
As we embrace the unfolding of summer, we draw inspiration from the season’s full moons. June’s Strawberry Moon signifies abundance; July’s Buck Moon embodies strength, growth, and renewal; and August’s Sturgeon Moon symbolizes resilience. Each phase guides us through a journey of power, connection, and transformation through the depiction of hands. Join us this summer and indulge in the magic of this season’s 3 components: Producer’s Pride, Costa Rica In the hills surrounding the tiny town of La Piedra de Rivas, near the Chirripo National Forest, a dozen producing families have come together to build a micro-milling facility called Beneficio Los Crestones. As we enter into a decade of working with these families, it’s exciting to see that this small neighborly cooperative is still trying to grow and innovate. Noticing the impact that their recently improved drying system had on the quality of the coffee, land was set aside to construct twice the amount of drying space alongside a new large bodega to protect the harvest before it makes its long journey to San Francisco. This lot collects the coffees from several of the Los Crestones producers in a blend we’re calling Producer’s Pride. Containing Caturra, Catuai, and Villalobos varieties, Producer’s Pride is a clean, mechanically washed coffee, often called a white honey coffee. Keffa, Ethiopia Keffa is more than a coffee growing region, it is thought by many to be the birthplace of coffee itself. Nestled in the lush highlands of southwestern Ethiopia, this ancient, forested land is where wild Arabica coffee first grew naturally centuries ago. Surrounded by dense rainforests, fertile volcanic soil, and mist covered mountains, Keffa remains deeply connected to the origins of coffee culture and biodiversity. Life in Keffa moves closely with nature. Most families live in small rural communities where coffee farming is not simply an industry, but a way of life passed down through generations. Farmers in the region intercrop coffee with native shade trees such as banana, which help fertilize the soil. Since producers deliver their coffee in cherry form, the collection centers prepare organic compost from this waste, store it, and distribute it to the producers. At the central washing station, the coffee is fermented for 48 to 72 hours in cement tanks and then dried up to 10 days under plastic parabolic covers, depending on the weather. By working closely with producers in Keffa, we work to create high-quality relationships that bring value back to the communities that make these coffees possible. Every lot is not only a reflection of terroir, but of the people and heritage behind it. Coatepec, México Coatepec is a city with strong traditions in Veracruz, Mexico. Known as the orchid capital of Mexico, it’s located in the central mountainous area of the state and surrounded by different topography ranging from trails to hills and waterfalls. Coatepec has a privileged but also limiting geographic position. It’s located in the lower part of the Cofre del Perote volcano, so its lands are very fertile and suitable for almost any crop. At the same time Coatepec’s location in relation to the Gulf of Mexico means cold air arrives from the north, meaning that coffee can only be grown up to 2000 meters above sea level due to the constant risk of frost in higher areas.
