This Red Bourbon microlot is from Rwanda's Muhazi region and is processed using the natural method with anaerobic fermentation. The whole coffee cherries are first fermented in an oxygen-free environment and then slowly dried outdoors using the special Sleeping Bag technique, which helps develop the coffee's pronounced sweetness and fruit-forward character. In the cup, juicy blackberry takes the lead, complemented by notes of muscovado, raisins, mint, and delicate violet. The profile is sweet, aromatic and complex, with balanced acidity and a creamy body. The coffee scored 87.75 points according to the SCA standard. Coffee Origin Muhazi, Gatsibo, Rwanda Altitude: 1,550-1,835 m a.s.l. Producer Humure Washing Station, Emmanuel Rusatira / Baho Coffee This lot comes from the Humure washing station in Rwanda's Gatsibo district, in the Muhazi region. The station is part of Baho Coffee, founded by Emmanuel Rusatira, and works with more than 1,900 smallholder farmers from the surrounding area. Why We Chose This Coffee What stood out to us most was its pronounced fruitiness, sweetness and aromatic character. We particularly enjoy brewing it with a vacuum pot and Chemex, where its blackberry profile, delicate florality and creamy body really shine. This coffee is also connected to a project jointly supported in Rwanda by Baho Coffee and our importer, Mare Terra. The initiative focuses on breast cancer prevention and awareness, particularly early detection and self-examination. In 2024, one of these awareness sessions was held at the Humure station and attended by approximately 250 people. Mare Terra contributes €0.10 from every kilogram of green coffee sold from its Rwandan lots to support the project.
