One of the most challenging parts in this area is the accessibility to buying channels. Farmers used to harvest and move their coffee more than 3km, most of them by foot, to sell it in Nyabuswa, the next biggest village. Intermediaries that used to come up the hill to buy the cherries at the village were thus offering a very low prices and often delayed payments. Kabuuka Elimethidas, Eli, initiated a cherry collection center in Kitonya has helped to set the fundament to create a more sustainable and closer relationship between farmers and buyers where the next steps of the supply chain are now visible and explained to the producers. Eli and his wife Immaculate make a great team combining Eli's deep understanding of the coffee supply chain and market in Western Uganda and Immaculate's degree in agronomy as well as her investment in farm development. The collection center has helped saving farmers' time, helped them get access to buyers, given them access to quality feedback and information about their own sales channels all the way to the roasters.Ellie's celebratory release to celebrate their win of the German Coffee Roasting Championship.
