We couldn’t be more excited about working with our newest Producer Partner Rosalba Cifuentes. Rosalba started her Mayan Harvest coffee project in 2017 in the small village of Bella Vista, Chiapas. Rosalba’s family members and fellow women Producers have been harvesting coffee for centuries, but had little access to the specialty coffee market and thus would typically sell their lots to middle men for well below market prices. Through an amazing amount of hard work and determination, Rosalba has managed to make Mayan Harvest one of the shining lights in the Mexico coffee world. In 6 short years, Mayan Harvest has managed to take complete ownership of their coffee from planting to processing and exporting while building direct relationships with some of the best coffee roasting companies in the world. The courage of being a woman producer Women in the Bella vista Chiapas community by tradition are mostly married at an early age and take on the tremendous task of raising a family in difficult conditions As one would imagine, the labor that is needed to cultivate a coffee plantation is tremendous. Many women that are producers of coffee became producers without choice, as for many years Bella Vista has been a coffee growing region and the plantations have been handed down through generations via inheritance, death, divorce, or sometimes suicide. To take on such a responsibility requires strength, determination, foresight and the ability to accept risk The goal of Mayan Harvest coffee is to fight every day so that the work and dedication of these women coffee producers is valued and recognized so that together we can make the difference in raising the prices received by these tremendous women.
