The Coffee Gardens perustettiin vuonna 2017 tavoitteena tuottaa eettisesti korkealaatuista erikoiskahvia sekä luoda suora ja läpinäkyvä yhteys kahvinviljelijöiden ja kahvinjuojien välille. Hankkeella on useita tavoitteita: parantaa viljelijöiden toimeentuloa ja elinoloja, luoda työpaikkoja maaseudulle, edistää sukupuolten välistä tasa-arvoa, lisätä läpinäkyvyyttä ja jäljitettävyyttä koko toimitusketjussa, suojella paikallista ympäristöä sekä tarjota viljelijöille koulutusta hyvien viljelykäytäntöjen (GAP) mukaisesti. Tämä pienerä on saanut nimensä Miwun kylästä, jossa monet kahvin tuottajista asuvat. The Coffee Gardens on työskennellyt tätä kahvia tuottavien viljelijöiden kanssa jo kahdeksan vuoden ajan. Joka vuosi viljelijöille tarjotaan koulutusta ja erilaisia palveluita, joiden tavoitteena on parantaa heidän toimeentuloaan ja elinolojaan sekä edistää ympäristön hyvinvointia. Prosessoinnissa juuri poimitusta kahvimarjoista ensin pestään ensin hedelmäliha pois, minkä jälkeen niitä kuivafermentoidaan 40 tunnin ajan. Lopuksi kahvi pestään huolellisesti kylmällä vuoristolähdevedellä. - This coffee is produced by smallholder farmers in Eastern Uganda as part of The Coffee Gardens project. The Coffee Gardens was established in 2017 with the aim of producing top-quality specialty coffee ethically – providing a direct and transparent link between coffee farmers and coffee drinkers. The project has several goals: to improve farmers’ incomes and living conditions, create jobs in rural areas, promote gender equality, increase transparency and traceability throughout the supply chain, protect the local environment, and provide farmers with training in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). This microlot is named after the village Miwu, where many of the farmers live. The Coffee Gardens has been working with these farmers for eight years. Each year, they provide training and services aimed at improving farmers’ incomes, living conditions, and the environment. In processing, freshly picked cherries are pulped, followed by a 40-hour dry fermentation, finished with a thorough wash in cold mountain spring water.
