All coffee from this region that is D.O. must meet certain quality standards, including reaching a minimum of 80 points by SCA methodology. Process: 96H Anoxic Varietal: Yellow Catuai Farm: Joia Rara Producer: Barbosa Family, Sérgio Ricardo The Barbosa family, a truly Brazilian, family-owned company, has thrived with a clear mission: to foster the sustainable growth of the Cerrado Mineiro region through the production of exceptional, sustainable coffees. Their farming legacy spans back to the 1900s. The tradition of producing coffee was passed down from Danilo's great-grandfather Elias Barbosa to his son Claudio Barbosa de Paula, and then to Danilo's father, Jairo Barbosa de Paula. In 1979, it was Danilo's turn to spearhead the Barbosa family business. Following in their ancestor's footsteps, Danilo, Imaculada, and sons Vitor Marcelo and Sérgio Ricardo work together on their eight farms, working their passion with close and extended family. In 2018, they shifted to producing specialty coffees, working closely with Deyvid Leandro, another local producer with over 20 years of experience in coffee production and fermentation processes. Their excellence was fully recognized when they obtained the highest scoring lot in the 2021 Brazilian Cup of Excellence, and have been finalists multiple times since then. Altitude: 950-1100 masl @ 19°S (Medium High to High; >1000 masl is considered high south of 15°S) Jindo Paid: 18.32 (CAD/kg) Cover Art: The cover art is The Red Vineyard near Arles, by Vincent Van Gogh, notable as being the only known artwork that he created and sold in his lifetime. Arles is not in Bourgogne, but we feel it is a good reminder of both the beauty of farming as well as that farming takes many hands. The Barbosa family understands these principles very well, with strong commitments to sustainability, family, and passing down quality to future generations.
