Spring has arrived! This time we are putting together a few of our favourite lots from Burundi and Ethiopia. We have chosen to blend two amazing Ethiopian coffees to keep things light and fruity with 40% of Masha, Kayanza from Burundi to bring the weight, depth and intrigue. It’s got a bright, juicy spring park wine vibe, with enough structure and warmth to get us through these next months of inclement weather. 40% Masha — Kayanza, BurundiA heavy, fruited and intriguing coffee from the Gitara region of Burundi. Farmers in this region traditionally farm cattle for subsistence and trade, but growing and exporting coffee is a critical cash crop which the community relies heavily on and can aid in drastically improving quality of life when operating at its best. Using this coffee in the Spring filter blend allows us to buy more of this beautiful coffee and as a result get as much money back to producers as possible. 30% Kayon Mountain — Shakiso, Guji, EthiopiaWe have bought from Kayon Mountain Farm for years, and for good reason; it’s delicious. An exceptional washed process coffee from Kayon Mountain Farm, owned by Ismael Hassen Aredo and his family. Producing some of the most stand out organic coffees available. 30% Arsosala — Uraga, Guji, EthiopiaArsosala comes from the Uraga woreda (district) of Guji, and is named after the Arsosala Washing Station which serves circa 1200 smallholder farmers. Typically farmers in this region don’t have access to and as such don’t use fertilizers or pesticides, making this coffee as organic as it can get without certification. It is also a “special prep” meaning only the best lots from these farmers made it into the bags! Tasting like: Ripe nectarine, dried apricot and bergamot with a salted caramel, chocolate finish with plenty of interesting spice flavours. Light and fruity up front with a sticky sweet finish. Exceptional black, fruited, dense and jammy. Sweet, balanced and fruited with milk.
