Product detailed description Rwanda Gicumbi – Precision with passion We selected this coffee for you in our roastery because we love its story and its incredibly fun taste. It comes from northern Rwanda, from the Gicumbi region, where coffee plants grow on steep slopes at an altitude of 1,800 to 2,000 meters. This mountain climate and volcanic soil near Lake Muhazi give the beans their density and energy. From pharmacists to top farmers The processing at the Nova Coffee washing station is unique. It is run by husband and wife Agnes Mukamushinja and Felix Hitayezu. Years ago, they traded their professions as a pharmacist and a nurse for coffee, bringing incredible discipline to the whole process. This pharmacy-like precision paid off – their coffee won 1st place in the Best of Rwanda 2024 national competition with a score of over 91 points. We have lot 32A from the Bukure sector for you, which showcases the best of their washed production. A story from the "Land of a Thousand Hills" Lot 32A grew in the steep mountains of the northern Gicumbi province at altitudes between 1,800 and 2,000 meters. The cooler climate and rich volcanic soil near Lake Muhazi force the coffee plants to ripen slowly, giving the beans their typical density and complexity. This coffee comes from farmers in the Dukorere Kawa cooperative, which connects growers around the Nova station. The best lots from this area often come from a group of thirty farmers called Dukundumurimo, which translates to "passion for work." What did we love about it during cupping? This Red Bourbon is incredibly playful. Right after grinding, you are hit by a strong exotic aroma of tropical fruit with a light floral touch. In the cup, expect an explosion of tangerines and juicy peaches accompanied by raspberries and blackberries. The acidity is medium to high, fruity, and beautifully clean. The sweetness reminds us of caramel, followed by an elegant hint of black tea in the finish. Overall, the coffee is very fun and has a lightness that we love in washed Rwandan coffees.
