UGANDA - Sironko Region At 1250 meters above sea level, the Sironko coffee washing station is uniquely located to receive arrivals from higher altitude farms, up to 1850 meters, along the slopes of Mount Elgon. Mount Elgon is an extinct volcano on the border with Kenya and is believed to be the oldest volcano on the African continent. Its massive base and gentle slopes support thousands of smallholder farmers, with Arabica coffee grown in a vast swath around the mountain, between 1,200 and 2,200 meters above sea level. Volcanic soils, abundant rainfall, high altitude, and abundant sunlight are all factors that contribute to the Mount Elgon region's excellent terroir and subsequent exceptional cup quality.
