Majirane is your Best of Congo Cooperatives Champion, and the second stop on our Award Tour series! Tangerine, persimmon, snickerdoodle, and honey in this deliciously tangy and sweet coffee! Stop 2 on the Award Tour: Congo Majirane! As Phife Dog said, "Top notch baby, never comin' less." The Award Tour series highlights award-winning coffees and coffee producers. Some have been part of Huckleberry for years, and some we're showcasing for the first time! Majirane is the second stop on tour, and your champion of Congo cooperatives! We had the honor of judging the Best of Congo Cooperatives competition late last year, and were impressed not only by Majirane, but also the breadth of quality from Congolese cooperatives as a whole! Cooperative Agricole Majirane is a group of approximately 500 farmers on the northwest shore of Lake Kivu, founded in 2020. The group specializes in washed processing, operating a main washing station called Buchiro, plus a micro station called Kishinji. The Best of Congo Cooperatives was our first time tasting coffees from the group, and for us at least, it was one of the best Congos we’d experienced. Coffee producers in Eastern Congo face huge levels of adversity. In a “normal” year, simply getting coffee out of the landlocked country and on its way to the US is a feat in itself. But over the past year or so, the M23 Rebel Group has invaded and occupied Eastern Congo - the country’s prime coffee lands, including the home base of Majirane Cooperative. The fact that 20 cooperatives produced coffee at all, submitted coffees for the Best of Congo Cooperatives competition, and exported those coffees to us is a major feat and a minor miracle in itself. Judging the Best of Congo Cooperatives was an inspirational experience. While we’ve showcased Congolese coffees in the past, we hope that judging this competition and roasting this coffee will lead to even more delicious coffees from the country in the years to come! We love Majirane for its tangy and sweet flavors, vibrant complexity, and juicy acidity. This coffee's an achievement for the cooperative behind it, and we hope you love it as much as we do! The 10 oz size of Majirane comes in a new box, designed by our friends at Obsesso Processo. The 2 lb size comes in our standard bag. Because this coffee is part of our special release Black Box series, it will not be included in our Daylight Savings Sale promotion from 3/6-3/8. _*** For roasting schedule, shipping, receiving & additional information, please visit out Frequently Asked Questions . And, for a primer on coffee processing, check out our Processing Basics Guide. rown Correction: our packaging says Congo is landlocked, but this is incorrect. While coffee exits Congo via an overland route to the east, the country does reach the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Pictured: Majirane Cooperative's Buchiro Station, courtesy Optimist Coffee Traders
