What the Brand Says
KARIMAKUI — KENYA Washed · SL28, SL34, BATIAN, RUIRU 11 Hailing from the rich volcanic soil of Kirinyaga in central Kenya, host of some of Kenya’s most fruit forward coffees, we have another crop from the Rung’eto Farmers Co-Op. You may remember Kii, a coffee we had on last year, named for the wet mill it was produced in, we’re now pleased to present you with Karimakui. Rung’eto Farmers Co-Op, established in 1953 hosts three wet mills, Kii, Karimakui and Kiangoi. Situated on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya the combined membership of the co-op is 2858 farmers. Seven elected officials run the Board of the Co-Op, two from each factory catchment, each member representing an electoral zone in the larger Rung’eto sublocation. Kirinyaga county lies south of Mt. Kenya, an ancient forested area with a wealth of exotic wildlife and medicinal plants that gets around 50 inches of rainfall a year. Many rivers permeate the region contributing to the volcanic soil being rich in nutrients, those nutrients provide smallholders and co-ops with the resources to grow and process some of Kenyas most fruit forward coffees. What a treat for us!Red Kiwi and Cherry Cola rounded out by Green Melon… Crisp and sweet, a perfect pick me up for the gloomy weather of late.KARIMAKUI — KENYA Washed · SL28, SL34, BATIAN, RUIRU 11 Hailing from the rich volcanic soil of Kirinyaga in central Kenya, host of some of Kenya’s most fruit forward coffees, we have another crop from the Rung’eto Farmers Co-Op.
