## What the Brand Says

> Luis Otavio Turati is a third-generation coffee producer working in the renowned Cerrado region, outside the city of Medieros. His grandfather worked in coffee in Sao Paolo; his father, Jose Afonso, studied agronomy in the 1980s and began his own production operations shortly thereafter, specifically searching out a coffee-growing area above 1100 masl, with well-defined periods of rain. Novo Horizonte was established in 1999. His coffee-loving son, Luis Otavio, took over the quality department on the family farm in 2020, in order to better meet the demands of the specialty coffee market. Some fun facts about Brazil as a coffee producing country: The U.S. state of Maryland is not large enough to contain all the coffee plants in Brazil, even if every inch of the state was growing coffee. Over 300,000 coffee farms in 2,000 cities grow coffee in Brazil. Although some of Brazil’s 30 coffee growing regions are home to the world’s largest coffee farms, there are also small and medium sized farms such as Luis's and our little, small plot of Yellow Catuai plants.
